PAI Partners has scored a €3bn exit of global board game giant Asmodee after overseeing huge growth at the business since its 2018 takeover.
The firm paid about €1.2bn for the France-based game publisher, which owns renowned modern titles including Pandemic, Catan and Dobble.
PAI said Asmodee had more than doubled sales to €1.1bn during its ownership, while EBITDA almost tripled to €250m.

Since 2018 the company has bolted on 23 businesses, including board game publishers such as Repos Production, Libellud, Plan B and most recently Exploding Kittens.
PAI will become a shareholder in Asmodee buyer Embracer, a video game company, following the deal, taking 4% of its shares.
Gaëlle d’Engremont, partner and head of the food and consumer sector at PAI Partners, said, “We have implemented a highly ambitious strategy over the past three years and we are proud to say that the company is today an undeniable leader in the exciting world of board games.
“Our focus has been on growth, both organic by investing in people and operations, and inorganic, with 23 acquisitions completed since 2018, with sales more than doubling during our ownership.
“Asmodee is now ideally positioned to pursue its successful journey with the long-term support of a leading player in the game industry.”
