Brookfield closes $1bn fund to back mid-market infrastructure companies

Brookfield Asset Management closed its inaugural Brookfield Infrastructure Structured Solutions Fund (BISS) at $1bn, hitting its fundraising target.

The fund, focused on middle-market infrastructure investments, will deploy both structured and common equity to back sponsors, developers, and corporates in sectors where Brookfield has deep expertise.

BISS has already committed capital to key investments, including Strategic Venue Partners, a wireless infrastructure platform, and Origis Energy, a U.S. renewable energy developer. Brookfield-affiliated entities contributed $150m to the fund, reinforcing its alignment with investors.

The fund marks a strategic expansion of Brookfield’s infrastructure platform into the mid-market, leveraging its experience as an owner-operator to source differentiated investment opportunities. Brookfield sees strong potential for scaling this strategy further, driven by increasing demand for infrastructure capital amid global trends like decarbonization and digitalization.

Ian Simes, Managing Partner and Co-Head of Brookfield’s infrastructure debt and structured solutions businesses, highlighted investor appetite for the fund’s strategy, while his counterpart, Hadley Peer Marshall, noted the firm’s ambition to grow BISS to a scale similar to Brookfield’s existing infrastructure debt and equity funds.
