TJC eyes $4.5bn exit as Motorola nears acquisition of Silvus Technologies

TJC is nearing a $4.5bn sale of wireless communications specialist Silvus Technologies, with Motorola Solutions in advanced talks to acquire the company, according to Bloomberg sources.

The deal, which could be announced in the coming weeks, would represent a major exit for TJC and a strong return on its investment in Silvus. The private equity firm had previously explored options including a potential IPO for the Los Angeles-based business.

TJC acquired Silvus Technologies amid growing institutional appetite for dual-use technologies – commercial innovations with strategic military and defence applications. Silvus has since seen rising demand, driven by global defence modernisation efforts and escalating geopolitical tensions.

Founded in 2004, Silvus develops cutting-edge wireless communications systems for mission-critical environments, including military and maritime use. Its advanced technologies are increasingly sought after as governments invest in resilient and secure communication infrastructure.

For Motorola Solutions, the proposed acquisition would strengthen its $70bn portfolio of emergency communications equipment and software, further expanding its presence in the defence and public safety sectors.

Neither TJC nor Motorola Solutions commented on the potential transaction. If finalised, the deal would mark one of the largest recent exits for a US middle-market private equity firm in the defence technology space.
