Ambienta returns to its roots with €500m fund targeting sustainable small caps
The fund will invest in European small cap companies with revenues of up to €150m that are aligned with long-term environmental sustainability trends.
The strategy reflects Ambienta’s return to its roots in backing high-quality, founder-led businesses, many of which formed the early backbone of the firm’s investment approach nearly two decades ago. These companies will be selected based on their ability to benefit from megatrends in resource efficiency and pollution control.
“The small cap strategy brings us back to our roots,” said Mauro Roversi, Founding Partner and Chief Investment Officer, Private Equity. “Our early success was built on investing in small, primarily family-owned businesses—companies that under our ownership became powerful consolidation platforms, took significant steps towards internationalisation, or successfully transitioned into structured, professionally managed organisations.”
Led by an experienced team based in Milan and Paris, the strategy will be spearheaded by three partners: Francesco Lodrini, a current Ambienta partner; and newly appointed partners Yann Bak and Giacomo Forti. The group will be supported by Senior Advisor Francesco Sogaro and will expand across other Ambienta offices in Europe over time.
The fund will use Ambienta’s proprietary Environmental Impact Analysis (EIA) tool and ESG in Action programme to track and enhance sustainability performance across its portfolio.
“At a time when others are retreating from sustainability, we are deepening our commitment with confidence,” added Laurent Donin de Rosière, Partner and Head of Investor Relations and Strategic Partnerships. “We firmly believe that companies driven by sustainability trends will continue to outperform.”
This marks a key strategic milestone for Ambienta as it broadens its reach within the European lower mid-market while remaining anchored in its science-based, sustainability-driven philosophy.
