Ardian acquires France’s Akuo, adds 1.9GW renewables capacity and names new CEO
The acquisition brings 1.9GW of solar and wind energy capacity, either operational or under construction, into Ardian’s portfolio. It also supports Akuo’s ambition to reach 5GW of installed renewable capacity by 2030. The firm’s development pipeline spans over 10GW across Europe and the Americas, with an active presence in Portugal, France, Greece, and Latin America.
As part of the transaction, Ardian has named Bruno Bensasson as Akuo’s new CEO, effective 4 July 2025. Bensasson previously held senior positions at Engie and EDF, where he served as executive director for renewables and chairman and CEO of EDF Renewables. His appointment signals Ardian’s intent to accelerate Akuo’s next phase of growth.
Eric Scotto, co-founder of Akuo, has taken on the role of chairman of the supervisory board. Reflecting on the company’s journey, he said: “What a remarkable adventure Akuo’s has been, created at a time when solar and wind renewable energies were emerging and now about to take on a new dimension at a time when they have become the norm.”
The deal marks a significant step in Ardian’s expansion in clean energy infrastructure and reinforces its long-term commitment to the energy transition.
