BD-Capital poaches Olympic chief Andy Anson to join Science in Sport board

BD-Capital Partners has recruited British Olympic Association (BOA) CEO Andy Anson to the board of performance nutrition brand Science in Sport (SiS), following the firm’s recent acquisition of the company.

Anson, a former executive at Manchester United and Disney, will step down from his BOA role in October after a six-year tenure marked by Team GB’s success at the Tokyo and Paris Olympics. Under his leadership, the BOA recorded strong commercial growth and financial stability, with Anson widely credited for guiding the organisation through the COVID-19 pandemic and the Tokyo Games delay.

“I am proud to have led an organisation that I love and care for,” said Anson. “Olympic sport is so important to our country, and I hope I leave it in a better place today.”

Anson will now help steer Science in Sport’s growth strategy and explore further investment opportunities across the sports and performance sector. The BOA confirmed his new role would focus on expanding SiS’s reach within elite and amateur athletics, where the brand already supplies nutrition products to Olympic teams and professional clubs.

BD-Capital’s decision to bring in Anson reflects its broader strategy of backing performance-led consumer brands with strong links to health, wellness, and sport. The move also signals growing private equity interest in the sports nutrition space.

BOA chair Katherine Grainger praised Anson’s contribution, noting the organisation is “in a strong place both on the sporting front and the commercial front” as it prepares for the upcoming Milano-Cortina Winter Games.

Anson, who previously led England’s bid for the 2018 FIFA World Cup and held leadership roles at the ATP Tour, Channel 4, and Fanatics, brings decades of experience across sport and business. His appointment is expected to bolster BD-Capital’s portfolio and strategic vision for SiS.
