Anthropic seeks $10bn raise at $350bn valuation as AI capital arms race intensifies

Anthropic is raising fresh capital at a valuation of $350bn, underlining the continued concentration of investor capital into a small number of dominant artificial intelligence platforms, according to Bloomberg.

The AI developer, best known for its Claude chatbot, is in discussions to raise about $10bn in a new round, according to people familiar with the matter. Singapore sovereign wealth fund GIC and Coatue Management are expected to lead the financing, with Microsoft and Nvidia also set to participate.

If completed, the round would represent a steep step-up from Anthropic’s $183bn valuation in September, when the company raised $13bn. The move places Anthropic among the most valuable private companies globally and reflects sustained investor conviction in large-scale AI infrastructure plays.

Founded in 2021 by former OpenAI employees, Anthropic has positioned itself as a safety-focused AI developer, while ramping up spending on chips and data centres to support increasingly complex models.

The fundraising comes amid intensifying competition for capital across the AI sector, as leading developers race to secure long-term funding to support infrastructure-heavy growth. OpenAI was valued at $500bn in a secondary share sale last year and has reportedly discussed raising additional capital at even higher levels.

For private equity and growth investors, the round highlights how capital is increasingly concentrated in a small number of global AI champions, raising questions about valuation sustainability and long-term returns.
