Founded in 2011 and based in Fragagnano, Taranto, Powering operates a fleet of more than 1,500 generators across 55 locations in Italy. The acquisition by Arcus, a UK-based private equity firm managing €23bn in assets, marks a significant step for Powering in expanding its market position and supporting the energy transition. Arcus has prior experience in the equipment rental sector through its ownership of WorkDry International, which includes Selwood, Siltbuster, and Holland Pump.
Powering CEO and founder Piero Giancano described the partnership as a “fundamental milestone” for the business. He highlighted a shared strategic vision with Arcus focused on innovation and sustainability. He emphasized that the collaboration would enhance Powering’s ability to provide energy solutions to Italian businesses and communities.
Arcus partner and head of energy Stefano Brugnolo stated that the acquisition followed years of research into the European energy rental market. He noted Powering’s role in delivering critical energy solutions aligns with Arcus’ investment approach, which prioritizes economic growth and social impact. Brugnolo added that Arcus sees opportunities to enhance Powering’s business potential and ESG credentials through strategic asset management initiatives.
Powering has built its growth on direct ownership of its genset fleet, efficient logistics for deliveries and refueling, and proprietary IT systems for monitoring and management. The company claims to be the only Italian operator able to guarantee two-hour response times—an essential service for businesses and utilities requiring immediate energy support during emergencies or grid maintenance.
With this investment, Powering aims to strengthen its leadership in Italy’s power rental sector and expand its capabilities to meet the evolving demands of the energy transition.
