Aware Super has appointed Alex Satchcroft as Head of Private Equity, placing him in charge of the pension fund’s $11bn global private equity portfolio, according to a report by the Australian Financial Review.

The appointment is part of a broader restructuring of the investment team under Chief Investment Officer Simon Warner, as the fund continues to refine its private markets strategy.

Satchcroft will report to Head of Private Markets Jenny Newmarch and brings experience from previous roles at Apax Partners, Macquarie Group, and Anchorage Capital.

The move reflects continued institutional focus on private equity, with Australian pension funds maintaining significant allocations to unlisted assets.

Approximately 20% of Australia’s $4.5trn pension system is invested in private markets, including private equity, private credit, and infrastructure.

Aware Super manages approximately $164bn in assets, positioning it among the largest pension funds globally and a key allocator within private markets.

The appointment comes amid broader changes across Australia’s investment landscape, as pension funds continue to evolve their strategies and team structures to support long-term returns.
