BGF made a significant multi-million-pound investment in OCL Vision, a fast-growing ophthalmology group, to support its expansion across the UK.
Founded in 2018 by leading eye surgeons Ali Mearza, Allon Barsam, and Romesh Angunawela, later joined by Chien Wong, OCL Vision has grown from a single London site into a premium healthcare provider with three locations. The investment will fund new clinic openings and strengthen marketing and sales capabilities.
OCL Vision performs nearly 4,000 private elective and clinical procedures annually, offering treatments including laser vision correction, refractive lens replacement, cataract surgery, and glaucoma procedures. The group, which employs 12 surgeons and a 60-person team, has achieved double-digit growth in patient numbers and revenue in 2024.
Recognized for its quality care, OCL recently won Best Healthcare Outcomes at the 2024 Laing Buisson Awards and received praise from the Care Quality Commission. To drive its next growth phase, the company appointed Nicholas Rudge as CEO, Darren Millington as CFO, and Suzanne Lawrence as non-executive Chair through BGF’s Talent Network.
BGF’s investment was led by Alistair Brew, Karolina Sokolowska, and Dylan Kaye from its London team. The deal strengthens BGF’s presence in the UK’s private ophthalmology market, positioning OCL Vision for significant expansion.
