Blackstone and Hellman & Friedman explore AI joint venture with Anthropic

Anthropic is in discussions with private equity firms including Blackstone and Hellman & Friedman about forming a joint venture focused on artificial intelligence deployment, according to The Information.

The proposed partnership would aim to bring Anthropic’s AI technology to companies owned by the investment firms, creating a new channel for the commercial deployment of the company’s AI systems.

If completed, the venture would adopt a model similar to that used by Palantir Technologies. The structure would combine software with consulting services designed to help businesses integrate artificial intelligence tools into their operations.

Such a model could enable private equity-backed companies to accelerate AI adoption while creating new revenue opportunities tied to enterprise implementation and advisory services.

The discussions come amid rising investor interest in artificial intelligence infrastructure and enterprise applications, which have become a key investment theme across private markets.

According to the report, negotiations briefly slowed following a dispute between Anthropic and the US government over restrictions on the military use of its AI systems.

US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth previously labelled the company a supply chain risk and banned its technology from use by the US Department of Defense and its contractors.

However, Reuters reported that the Pentagon later informed senior officials that Anthropic’s tools, including its Claude AI system, could continue to be used beyond an earlier planned phase-out period if deemed critical to national security.

Talks regarding the joint venture remain ongoing and no final agreement has been reached.
