Broodstock Capital takes control of Neptun Salmo, targets consolidation in hatchery segment
The deal involves both the purchase of shares from existing owners and the injection of new capital. The investment will fund facility expansion and drive further growth via bolt-on acquisitions, according to Broodstock.
Neptun Salmo, headquartered in Namsos, has over three decades of experience in hatchery fish production. In summer 2024, the company opened a new facility featuring cutting-edge RAS (recirculating aquaculture system) technology. It currently operates land-based sites in Røyklibotn and Survik and expects to produce 5.4 million smolts in 2025. The company generated NOK 90m in revenue last year and employs 16 staff.
“This is a classic industrial investment for us,” said Pål Kristian Moe, Partner at Broodstock Capital. “We look forward to collaborating with the skilled team at Neptun Salmo to realise the company’s growth ambitions.”
The investment underscores Broodstock’s commitment to active ownership and sustainable value creation in seafood. Partners Håkon Aglen Fredriksen and Pål Kristian Moe will represent Broodstock on Neptun Salmo’s board, joined by industry advisor Terje Eidesmo as Chairman.
“Our strategy is clear,” added Anders Bjørkli, CEO of Neptun Salmo. “We aim to produce first-class hatchery fish and act as a strategic partner for both post-smolt and traditional fish farmers.”
Established in 2016, Broodstock Capital is a Norwegian private equity firm focused on industrialising and scaling companies across the seafood value chain.
