Mutares targets global expansion with acquisition of Hyva crane unit

Mutares SE & Co. KGaA has agreed to acquire the crane business unit of Hyva in a deal that will create a new platform investment for its Goods & Services segment.

The transaction, expected to close in Q4 2025 subject to regulatory approval, marks a strategic move to expand Mutares’ presence in the global truck-mounted crane market.

Hyva’s crane division generates around €100m in annual revenue and employs 400 staff across manufacturing and assembly facilities in Italy, Brazil, and China. The business operates a worldwide sales and distribution network, supplying products to sectors including construction, infrastructure, and marine equipment.

Despite its strong brand portfolio and extensive engineering expertise in compact and mid-size cranes, the division has faced recent financial underperformance and operational inefficiencies. Mutares CIO Johannes Laumann called the acquisition “a very promising new platform” and highlighted it as both a turnaround and carve-out opportunity.

“With our proven expertise in carve-outs and restructuring, we aim to restore profitability and drive sustainable growth,” Laumann said, adding that the company’s diversified footprint offers “high growth potential in emerging and developed markets.”

The acquisition strengthens Mutares’ strategy of investing in underperforming businesses with significant global market potential.
