Ophthalmology Consultants, for example, is a part of St. Louis-based EyeCare Partners, a private equity-backed eye group that boasts a portfolio of 300 ophthalmologists and 700 optometrists in 19 states.
The group was acquired by private equity firm Partners Group in 2019, one of the many PE firms looking to ophthalmology groups.
Additionally, Retina Consultants of America, another eye group, was formed in 2020 with a $350m investment from Webster Equity Partners. The PE-backed group invested in the practices of four of the top Avastin prescribers, and nine of the top Lucentis prescribers.
