Sponsor Capital sells majority stake in Finnish HR firm StaffPoint to MB funds

Sponsor Capital exited its investment in StaffPoint, selling its 64% stake to MB Funds, which now holds a majority position in the Finnish HR service provider.

The State Pension Fund of Finland has also joined as a new minority shareholder.

Varma Mutual Pension Insurance Company and StaffPoint’s management will retain their minority stakes. Sponsor Capital initially acquired a 70% stake in StaffPoint in 2017, when the company operated across 14 locations in Finland and had a presence in the Baltics and Spain. At the time, StaffPoint generated €130m in net sales.

During Sponsor Capital’s ownership, StaffPoint expanded through mergers and acquisitions, including its 2019 deal with Finnish recruitment and staffing firm Valtti Henkilöstöratkaisut Oy. The group now includes StaffPoint Oy, which specializes in staffing and recruitment; Spring House Oy, a coaching and training company; and Henrico Digital Oy, a digital business and talent consultancy.

In 2023, StaffPoint recorded net sales of €137m and employed approximately 14,000 people. The company now operates ten offices across Finland and maintains a service hub in Spain.

Juha Tukiainen, managing partner and CEO of MB Funds, described the acquisition as a strategic opportunity to strengthen StaffPoint’s position in the staffing sector. He highlighted the company’s digital capabilities and corporate culture as key competitive advantages that will drive future growth.
