Sycamore Tree launches credit secondaries strategy to unlock portfolio liquidity

The strategy expands the firm’s alternative credit offering and targets opportunities in the growing credit secondaries segment, where institutional investors are increasingly seeking to rebalance portfolios and unlock capital from existing private market exposures.
The platform focuses on acquiring seasoned credit portfolios, often at discounted valuations, while delivering enhanced diversification and accelerated cash flows compared to traditional private credit investments.
The initiative will be led by Robert O’Connor, who joins the firm as Partner and Portfolio Manager with more than two decades of experience across secondaries, private equity, and complex credit strategies. He previously held senior roles at Banner Ridge Partners and Drum Capital, where he focused on distressed and opportunistic credit investments.
Mark Okada, Co-Founder and CEO of Sycamore Tree, said, “Credit secondaries is a natural fit with our corporate and structured credit expertise and our focus on strategies that deliver attractive risk-adjusted returns and capital preservation.”
Robert O’Connor added, “Sycamore Tree’s Credit Secondaries platform is focused on meeting the needs of investors seeking diversified portfolios and access to attractive risk adjusted returns, supported by the Firm’s expertise, relationships and lack of conflicting products.”
Consequently, the launch highlights the rapid expansion of credit secondaries as a core strategy within private markets, as firms seek to combine liquidity solutions with access to discounted assets and shorter duration return profiles.
